Barista Engage – Thursday 17th June 2021, 10am-3pm – Coffee Commune Brisbane
Barista Engage is a one-day workshop at Coffee Commune in Brisbane, which will focus on the positive career paths for baristas who want to advance into a full-time job role. We have asked some industry professionals to share their success stories with attendees of the workshop. Barista Engage is an industry first, with the generous support of major sponsor The Alternative Dairy Co, who jumped at the chance to do a positive impact workshop that hopefully will shine a different light onto the barista career path and take away the last years’ negative industry downturn due to the Covid pandemic.
We are super excited to announce additional industry speakers Sam Taylor and Paul Asquith who will join Justin Metcalf, David Makin, Phillip Di Bella and Craig Lawson discussing the career paths for aspiring baristas.
Introducing Paul Asquith

With 20 years already spent committed to coffee, Paul’s passion is for digesting the endless possibilities and knowledge surrounding coffee flavour development. After winning the Australasian Grand Barista Championship in 2012 and placing in various ASCA regional barista championships, judging at a national level and category head judge in the Australian International Coffee Awards and at Golden Bean, Paul knows just how good coffee can be and the important role everyone plays, from grower to Barista, in developing and nurturing flavour. Captivated by coffee’s agronomy, Paul is excited to be part of a generation passionate about improving practices on farms and seeing growers produce outstanding coffee and taking that into the consumers hands. With stints at Gloria Jean’s Coffee, Grinders Coffee, Ona Coffee, Seven Miles Coffee and now as the Relationship Manager at Josie Coffee, Paul is committed to coffee for life and improving the perception of coffee for years to come.
