Here’s how you can get involved.
The impacts of the coronavirus have meant that now more than ever, Australians are buying local, and it’s a habit that Sydney-based butter maker Pierre ‘Pepe’ Saya hopes will hang around.
To help keep the momentum going, Pepe has created Aussie Artisan Week (August 17-23). The event hopes to encourage individuals to buy and support Australian-made artisanal goods.
“We’ve been incredibly appreciative of all our customers who have supported us by buying Pepe Saya through our online store over the past four months,” Pepe Saya said.
“We’ve realised that Australians do value Australian made, and we want to continue to share how many amazing options there are out there from dairy to meat, fresh veg and even homewares. Plus, why it’s better all-around when you buy small and buy local. The product comes to you fresh, the process is more sustainable, and the money you spend goes directly back into the Australian economy.”
Made in Caringbah Sydney, Pepe Saya cultured butter can be found on the menus of (pretty much) all the best restaurants in the city including Rockpool, Momofuku Seiōbo, Icebergs, and more. Alongside their cultured butter, they also make buttermilk, crème fraîche and mascarpone, as well as three flavoured butters infused with wood smoke, ‘nduja and bottarga. You can buy the full range from Pepe Saya’s website directly, as well as at Carriageworks farmers market in Sydney.
To celebrate Aussie Artisan Week, Pepe Saya will be sharing stories of its favourite artisans on its Instagram account and encouraging others to get involved by sharing stories of the locally-made products that they buy, make and love using the hashtag #AussieArtisanWeek.
